Melatonin: What You Need to Know
Melatonin is a hormone that occurs naturally in the body. It is produced by the pineal gland or epiphysis, located in the brain.
Its main function is to regulate the sleep-wake rhythm.
Melatonin production depends on exposure to light: it is increased by darkness, which signals to the body that it is time to sleep, and decreased by daylight, which prepares the body for waking up.
People who do not produce enough melatonin during the night may have difficulty falling asleep. Stress, smoking, exposure to too much light at night (particularly blue light), lack of natural light during the day, shift work and ageing are all factors that can reduce the secretion of melatonin.
Taking a melatonin supplement can help restore adequate levels of this hormone in the body and thus reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.
A considerable amount of melatonin is found in foods such as corn, oats, brown rice, cherries, almonds, radishes, tomatoes, and pineapple.
Vitamin B6 is important for the synthesis of serotonin, one of the precursors of melatonin. Vitamin B6 is found in cereals and wholemeal flours, lentils, milk, dried fruit, avocados, and brewer’s yeast.

IBSA has applied IBSA FilmTec® technology to develop a new line of dietary supplements in orodispersible film (ODF)
The new formulations, consisting of a small-sized ultra-thin strip (50-150 μm thickness), dissolve in seconds once placed in the mouth, providing rapid bioavailability of the active ingredient. IBSA food supplements in orodispersible film are also an excellent solution for those who have difficulty swallowing and taking the usual oral forms with water.
Instructions
Note: Do not handle the orodispersible film with wet hands.
